NEW IMAGES REVEALED OF SAUDI ARABIA'S £1,000,000,000,000 MEGA CITY
New images of Saudi Arabia’s £1,000,000,000 mega city has been released, but it has left people even more confused.
The country planned to transform their deserts into a city of 9 million people across a 105-mile stretch of line called Neom in the Tabuk Province.
The new concept images include a mirror skyscraper, and buildings floating over a marina, giving off the illusion of invisibility.
There’ll be a marina for its residents’ superyachts, a members-only beach club, a luxury golf resort, and a sports stadium 1,000ft above ground.
Neom’s social media account claimed the metropolis will ‘redefine livability’ and ‘transform how we live’.
Some 1.5 million people were supposed to be settled in the many skyscrapers meant to rival New York City by 2030.
But the futuristic project, which includes a ship travelling through the city, is moving further away from reality.
But critics have slammed the ambitious project, saying it puts wildlife at risk and makes it confusing for passing ships.
Experts claim the giant mirrored buildings would pose a significant risk to birds which fly over Saudi Arabia every year.
Professor William Sutherland, director of research in Cambridge University’s zoology department, told The Times: ‘Birds flying into tall windows is a serious problem, and this is a building that is 500m high going across Saudi Arabia, with windmills on top.
‘So unless they do something about it, there’s a serious risk that there could be lots of damage to migratory birds.’
Tribes and more than 100,000,000 cubic metres of sand have already been moved as contractors excavate a 75-mile canyon in the desert.
Security forces have been accused of shooting dead a resident.
There has also been some ambiguity over what technology is helping the project, with some questions over its existence and capabilities.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wanted to move his country’s economy away from its reliance on oil and has invested heavily in the project.
It was first predicted to cost £1.2 trillion but now moving closer to £2 trillion if built in full.
Due to this, some areas of the project have had to be cut back, with the line only expecting to house 300,000 by 2030 instead, according to the Telegraph.
